Sidetracker multi directional lift trucks are ideal for long load handling. Whatever the length of load a Sidetracker can operate in an aisle as narrow as 1500mm. More than 2 forks can be fitted at any distance apart to give maximum support to flexible loads. With a Sidetracker multi directional sideloader a 7 metre long load can be transported through a 3 metre wide door.
Case Study – Manoeuvrable Sidetracker Handles 18-Metre Extrusions
A highly manoeuvrable multi-direction sideloader from Sidetracker is being used successfully by Newburgh Engineering to handle 18-metre aluminium extrusions inside and outside its Derbyshire factory. The company, which operates from a sloping site in the Peak National Park, specialises in precision machining work and currently has a contract to produce longitudinal structural components for rail carriages.
Long loadsThe battery-powered Sidetracker takes packs of extrusions weighing 2.5 tonnes from the delivery lorry to an external bulk storage area and then delivers them up an 8 per cent gradient to the production area as required for machining. Handling such long components inside the factory with a conventional lift truck would have caused problems, but the twin-axle steering on the Sidetracker enables it to rotate on its own axis and manoeuvre safely through the works.
The Sidetracker is a four-wheel model with two drive wheels, an articulating chassis that ensures firm ground contact, and treaded cushion tyres that increase traction and driver comfort on slopes and uneven ground. Power is provided by twin electro-hydraulic units, and the driver can also select a high-torque setting to increase traction further when necessary. The 18-metre extrusions are carried on special forks with a spread of seven metres which have a 5mm layer of polyurethane on top to prevent scuffing.
Case Study – Handling Long Loads Inside and Out
A national timber engineering company has taken delivery of a Sidetracker multi-direction lift truck in preference to a diesel sideloader to handle specialised sections 15 metres long within restricted storage areas at its main depot.
The Sidetracker is used to carry products between a storage area, internal racking and a cutting table. The four-wheel twin transmission design provides good stability and traction in all conditions. It also enables the truck to turn a full circle on its own centre and travel in any direction, greatly reducing the space needed for handling and storage. Minimum aisle width is 2.3 metres.
The storage capacity of vertical racking in the internal store is maximised by the low load deck just 356mm (14 inches) from the floor. The battery-powered Sidetracker has health and safety benefits in the internal storage and cutting area as it does not produce fumes.
Also, as the truck does not have electronic components, it operates reliably in bad weather in the outside yard. Wide fork spread provides a high degree of stability for the long loads. Hydraulic control of the fork positioner makes spread adjustment quick and easy.
